Dakota Kai might have done some necessary reflection based on her latest encounter with Wendy Choo at NXT Vengeance Day 2022. After a bit over three months of occasional conflict over her actions and trying to resist the demons of the mind but always succumbing... she had finally admitted she had a problem. And she had resisted the temptation of attacking Wendy after Choo rubbed salt in the wound. What I'm about to chronicle indicates Dakota Kai has reflected a bit on what has been going on with her since last summer.

The 2022 Women's Dusty Cup Tournament was drawing near and Wendy Choo's hopeful tag partner Amari Miller had already committed to someone. Wendy handled it sort of well. In need of a partner she asked fellow loser club member Dakota Kai who was perplexed Wendy would ask her. The voices in Dakota's head told her not to accept. But she argued against their "opinion" a bit stronger than usual, seemingly wanting to take Wendy up on her offer. Wendy insisted a team-up would be fun and asked Dakota to let her know her decision when uh they figured things out.

Dakota was fighting harder against her voices. It was fitting this potential new partnership that might be just what she needed to heal her broken soul would be offered to her at the same event that served as a huge pitfall the year before. And for the same prize. At NXT Vengeance Day 2021, the failures of her past were piled onto and she would descend into madness. Perhaps at NXT Vengeance Day 2022 we've seen her finally begin to work her way out of it.

A week passed. On the day of NXT February 22, 2022 Dakota Kai and Wendy Choo would be officially entered into the 2022 Women's Dusty Cup Tournament by Wendy. Kai was frustrated Wendy didn't tell her. Wendy reminded Kai that last week she told the friend she always talks to. Dakota knew Wendy was a sweet girl with only good intentions, however she expressed concern that her own knack for betrayal did not bode well for their team. Wendy was confidant their team would work because Dakota had never had her as a partner.

After Wendy headed off to catch her afternoon sleep, Dakota told the little friends in her head that Wendy chose us only to quickly disagree, proudly stating with a warm smile that Wendy chose her. Kai looked the most at peace and happy she had been in months, if not years. That warm smile was the kind we had not seen from Dakota in such a long time. Our Captain kept hope that Wendy and her would come together as a team if not more, however some realistic doubt still remained.
