C'est La Vie

September 10th 2021. Madison Square Garden. New York City. SmackDown. Shotzi & Tegan Nox made their debut in the hallowed halls of WWE's Home offering to rescue Paul Heyman from his troubles with a ride on the TCB Tank. Or maybe they were tricking him into a ride to take him to some troubles. Who'd blame them if so? Maybe the payment was finally getting that already earned WWE Women's Tag Team Championship match. Heyman refused the ride to stick around and torment Kayla Braxton.

The next week on the September 17th 2021 episode of SmackDown, my hope to see one of my favorites compete on television on my birthday was not to be. Instead, Tegan was only present in a WWE Digital Exclusive where she (wearing a leather belt with her name on it) encouraged Shotzi to flee the TCB Tank away from a certain big red mayor. SmackDown was in Knoxville so being kNOXville and all, they should have gotten the WWE Women's Tag Team Title match they earned and won the titles on my birthday. I'm not just being selfish, I'm speaking truth.

Days later on the September 20th 2021 episode of Monday Night RAW, the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship changed hands. But it wasn't Shotzi & Nox finally getting their more than earned match. The new champions were Rhea Ripley & Nikki A.S.H. (Nikki Cross). That was good news because maybe the problem was the previous champions were afraid to defend against a team who beat them three and a half times while Rhea and Nikki would be fighting champs.

Prior to the September 24th 2021 SmackDown at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, Shotzi & Nox filmed a fun homage to Rocky including a workout on those legendary steps. Later that night, Nikki defeated Natalya on SmackDown. Surely, the recent loses were a sign for management to give another team a chance. Could this have finally led to Shotzi & Nox getting that tag team title match? Hell, they even rode out on the TCB Tank following Nikki's win over Natalya to make it clear they were there and waiting, maybe a bit impatiently by this point.

On the October 4th 2021 RAW Talk, it was revealed Nox and Shotzi had been drafted to different brands during the 2021 WWE Draft. Shotzi would report to SmackDown on the October 22nd 2021 episode when the new rosters went into effect. Tegan would report to RAW on the October 25th episode. Despite being split, they still teamed until the end, even showing off a darker side at their last house shows together. The Lady Wizardballs main roster run would end with an undefeated streak of ten consecutive victories, all against Natalya and Tamina in some manner.

It was the conclusion of that series of uneventful events. A lot of fans were critical of Shotzi & Nox never getting a tag team title match televised or not. They have a point. A valid, undeniable one. But that was merely one constructive criticism of which many were rarely brought up. The fact they never had a televised match over 4 minutes. The fact they had a fun, likable and addictive chemistry shown in the WWE Digital Exclusives not showcased more during the actual television episodes. That a promoted debut over a surprise one might have helped too. The WWE Shop shirt with Shotzi & Nox all hearty laughs pulling massive nose hairs that never was.

"Once Upon a Time in the WWE Universe...

There was a girl with a shiny wizard. There was another with balls tougher than Dragonglass. Mutual enemies brought them together. In the Summer 2020 they tore the house down against a boss and a role model. But they never got the rematch the world and they wanted. In the fall the girl with the shiny wizard sustained an unfortunate injury while the ballsy badass went forward on her own until going to war and finding a new partner yet never a replacement.

Fate brought the girl with the shiny wizard and ballsy badass back together when they moved up to a new blue land. Yet they never quite got a chance to show what they could deliver, barely getting a televised match over a few minutes. Many of their segments were online only. On the plus side they beat the tag team champions a few times, yet on the not plus side they never got that title match. They were broken up. One vanished from the universe while the other remained on a new path.

Despite the parting they still stuck up for each other. But the tag team as we knew them was as gone as the ballsy badasses' tank was for a time. Their quirky humor and banter is sorely missed. They never got to pull enough hair from a nose. We can only think of what could have been and so The Legend of the Lady Wizardballs will forever live on in our hearts and minds. And on this website in the middle of nowhere."

Tegan getting a singles run on Monday Night RAW would have been great. As well, around the same time, her former friend Dakota Kai was going through a mental health crisis on NXT that could have built to Nox coming back to NXT to be the one to help Kai back to the light, giving fans a beautiful Team Fly-Kicks reunion story. Instead of all that, on November 18th 2021 WWE released Tegan Nox. The Story of Tegan Nox had come to an end. Another chapter of The Story of Nixon Newell would begin... when Newell could settle work visa matters.

We would not see the return of Nixon Newell. In July 2022, WWE management changed for the better. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were now in charge. Triple H would bring back many of the persons the previous management released during the pandemic era and after. Tegan Nox would be one of those persons. The Girl With The Shiniest Wizard. The Absolute Unit. She would return, beginning a new, much more optimistic and promising chapter in The Story of Tegan Nox.
