April 28th 2017. MCW presented their annual Clash of the Titans event. Evie would have her final independent match before starting the next chapter of her career in WWE NXT. It was fitting it would be against most recent rival, Kellyanne. Their match would be the finals of the Vera and Jenny Memorial Cup Tournament named after two members of the Melbourne wrestling community who lost their lives to breast cancer. Evie had participated in the inaugural 2014 tournament but lost in the finals against KC Cassidy (Cassie Lee) and Toni Storm.
Evie made her way to the MCW ring slapping hands one final time with some of the fans who had become part of her extended family during the last couple years. She may have returned to MCW in 2015 despised by the proud Australian fans, however she earned their love and respect during her rivalry with Kellie Skater.
Kellyanne and Evie came to the center of the ring for a staredown. There may have been some respect between the two following their Last Woman Standing Match. But that was tossed out quickly on Kellyanne's part as she talked trash and pushed Evie. Evie fired back nailing Kellyanne with the most violent headbutt she could muster. Both women attempted numerous strikes, kicks and pinfall attempts but evaded or kicked out. It was the proverbial stalemate.
Evie took a moment to regroup in the corner opening the door for Kellyanne to slap her across the back of the neck with a running knife edge chop. Kellyanne hit the canvas pounding away at the Kiwi. Evie pushed Kellyanne off as she lifted her up, delivering an ax kick and snap-of-a-kick to her back. She followed that combo up with a running kick to the chest but Kellyanne kicked out of her pin effort at two. Evie went to another of her signature combos, boot scraping Kellyanne in the corner followed by the running face wash.
Kellyanne tossed Evie to the turnbuckles as she came at her followed by a knee strike to her face. She whipped Evie to the opposite corner. Evie rolled over Kellyanne as she charged at her, rebound dropkicking her to the apron and slipping onto it herself. Kellyanne caught a kick and swept Evie to the hard wooden floor. Evie almost hit the apron too on the way down, barely avoiding a double whammy.
Evie got to her feet only for Kellyanne to send her crashing back down to the floor with a running knee strike from the apron. Kellyanne disrespectfully yanked Evie back into the ring. After a failed pin attempt Kellyanne struck Evie across the chest with an open palm strike in the corner and hard chop. She snapmared Evie into a cover but she kicked out. Kellyanne stayed in control with a neckbreaker, basement clothesline and two kicks to the spine.
Kellyanne went for a roundhouse kick but Evie ducked, instead waffling her opponent with one. Evie was caught in a waistlock and cradled to the turnbuckles where Kellyanne used the ropes to slingshot herself at her rival, nailing her with a dropkick. Kellyanne applied a reverse chinlock hoping to conserve energy and continue to wear down her opponent. Evie tried to elbow herself free only for Kellyanne to slingshot suplex her to the canvas.
Evie was tied to the ropes and slapped across the chest with another chop. Kellyanne charged at her to deliver another only for Evie to catch her, dropping her over the ropes. But Kellyanne hung on. Evie fired back with a headbutt. She charged at Kellyanne, however her opponent held the ropes down, sending Evie crashing to the floor. Kellyanne continued her assault striking Evie down with a cannonball off the apron as she tried to get up. But she wasn't done. She tossed Evie into the barrier and smashed her skull first into it again with another, more brutal cannonball.
Kellyanne rolled into the ring to take the countout victory. But Evie was not out of the fight, rolling back in at the nine count. Kellyanne went for the cover hoping to snatch the win but Evie kicked out aggressively to make it clear she still had a battle in her heart. This did not sit well with Kellyanne who pulled Evie up by her hair talking trash. Evie lashed back at Kellyanne walloping her with a slap to the face. They traded the most violent of strikes trying to take each other down but neither would fall to the canvas.
Evie changed over to kicks, striking Kellyanne with a roundhouse to the head but she barely went down to her knee, keeping her footing. Kellyanne grabbed Evie's tights to stop her from running the ropes to deliver more offense. Evie feint kicked Kellyanne's arm to brush her off, following that with another roundhouse to the head to bring her to her knees this time. Kellyanne got up, flailing back and forth until a third, final roundhouse from Evie sent her to the canvas.
Kellyanne didn't stay down for long, haphazardly finding herself in the corner. Evie struck her with two charging Yakuza kicks. Kellyanne tried to cut her off when she went for the third but Evie instead tossed Kellyanne into the corner, turning her upside down on the impact. Evie did not let up, nailing Kellyanne in the face with a sliding Yakuza kick this time as her head was draped in perfect position over the ring ropes.
Evie ascended to the top rope but Kellyanne cut her off with an upwards palm strike. Kellyanne climbed to the second rope with Evie draped over her shoulders. She jumped down, dropping Evie sternum first on the top rope. Kellyanne looked for an end, hitting the slumped Evie with another cannonball. But Evie kicked out! Kellyanne struck her with a rolling elbow knocking her back to the canvas. She laughed thinking she was in control only to get planted by Evie's uranage backbreaker. Evie climbed up and came down with Coup-de-Evie but Kellyanne kicked out!
Kellyanne and Evie managed to their feet. They were spent but each had one last bit of fight left in their hearts. Evie made the charge forward. Kellyanne reacted with all she had left, launching Evie over her all the way to the floor. On her way down Evie felt the triple whammy of pain: The top ring rope, the ring apron and lastly the wooden floor. Kellyanne made haste, tossing Evie back in and hanging her in the corner. She charged her prone body, mauling her to the canvas with one final cannonball. Kellyanne covered Evie who was out cold, scoring the pinfall victory.
Evie was overcome with emotion as she addressed the crowd following the match. She actually forgot her intended speech. So she kept it simple, telling the fans she loved them and thanked them for making her feel at home. She called Kellyanne the best female wrestler in Australia and one of the best in the world, wishing her success. Evie finished her address stating it was an honor to share the ring with Kellyanne and perform in front of the fans before closing with one final, simple thank you. Kellyanne helped Evie up into an embrace. After they came apart, Evie pointed to Kellyanne before exiting the ring.
Our Captain disappeared behind the curtain, closing this chapter of her career. This would be her final match as Evie. She picked that ring name at the age seventeen after her favorite Pokemon character. Nearly ten years had passed and it was time to put it to rest. The Story of Evie had come to an end, passing on into legend. She would stay true to herself and continue to fight her heart out as she always did with a new name. The Story of Dakota Kai would soon begin.
